
12 IMPACT PROTECTION VEHICLE (IPV)
COURSE INFORMATION
Prerequisites: Learners must have completed the Temporary Traffic Management Basic Course (TTMBC) if new to the industry or if they do not hold other current NHSS 12ABCD TTM skills registration cards/certificates (excluding 12D M7). They are required to gain 3 months ‘on the job’ experience prior to attending the 12AB General Operative course, if they are to complete ‘Live Lane’ assessments (see below). IPV refresher training requires learners to have an in date IPV skill, which includes the 6 month grace period for renewals. Those whom have IPV skills that have expired by more than 6 months must be retrained and assessed as new entrants
Who should attend? All persons who will be required by their employer to work on high-speed roads, running mobile hard shoulder (or non-live lane) operations using an IPV and for protecting and installing static temporary traffic management

On completion of this course you will:
be aware of the current reference documentation associated with the use of an IPV within temporary traffic management
be aware of the specification requirements for an impact protection vehicle
be able to demonstrate underpinning knowledge required to drive impact protection vehicles
Understand different impact protection vehicle roles, responsibilities and limitations when -Â Using an IPV for mobile hard shoulder closures;Â Using an IPV to protect the installation and removal of temporary traffic management;Â Using an IPV as a convoy control vehicle;Â Using an IPV when involved in mobile carriageway closure techniques
